چکیده

We compute by Path Integral Monte Carlo the isotopic shift of helium melting pressure in the temperature range (T > 100 K) where a discrepancy between theory and experiment has been recently reported. We use a realistic Aziz pair potential together with Bruch-McGee three-body forces for the interaction. The isotopic shift predicted in this work is in agreement with experiment; its measurement provides a good test of the interatomic potential of helium, as the isotopic shift is sensitive to the kinetic energy, which is determined by the short-range pair interaction.

Path-integral Monte Carlo simulation of helium at negative pressures

Path-integral Monte Carlo simulations of liquid helium at negative pressure have been carried out for a temperature range from the critical temperature to below the superfluid transition. We have calculated the temperature dependence of the spinodal line as well as the pressure dependence of the isothermal sound velocity in the region of the spinodal. We discuss the slope of the superfluid tran...

Hydrogen-Helium Mixtures at High Pressure

The properties of hydrogen-helium mixtures at high pressure are crucial to address important questions about the interior of Giant planets e.g. whether Jupiter has a rocky core and did it emerge via core accretion? Using path integral Monte Carlo simulations, we study the properties of these mixtures as a function of temperature, density and composition. The equation of state is calculated and ...

4He adsorption on a single graphene sheet: Path-integral Monte Carlo study

We have performed path-integral Monte Carlo calculations to study 4He adsorption on a single graphene sheet. The 4He-substrate interaction was assumed to be a pairwise sum of the helium-carbon potentials constructed by Carlos and Cole to fit helium scattering data from a graphite surface. We employed both an anisotropic 6-12 Lennard-Jones potential and a spherical 6-12 potential. For both poten...

Path Integral Monte Carlo and Density Functional Molecular Dynamics Simulations of Hot, Dense Helium

Two first-principles simulation techniques, path integral Monte Carlo (PIMC) and density functional molecular dynamics (DFT-MD), are applied to study hot, dense helium in the densitytemperature range of 0.387 – 5.35 g cm and 500 K – 1.28×10 K. One coherent equation of state (EOS) is derived by combining DFT-MD data at lower temperatures with PIMC results at higher temperatures. Good agreement b...

Path integral Monte Carlo applications to quantum fluids in confined geometries

Path integral Monte Carlo is an exact simulation method for calculating thermodynamic properties of bosonic systems. Properties such as superfluidity and bose condensation are directly related to multiparticle exchange cycles of individual particle paths. Such calculations of bosonic systems in confined geometries, such as helium and hydrogen on surfaces and in droplets are reviewed. © 2001 Ame...
